Why
Do I Make Earwax?
Earwax performs
a protective function within the ear canal. Under normal
conditions earwax forms a protective coating on the skin
of the ear canal. This coating has an acidic pH and is known
to be "bacteriostatic", which means that it inhibits
the growth of bacteria. This helps protect us from conditions
such as "Swimmers Ear' and other infections. Earwax
also lubricates the skin and protects the eardrum and other
structures.
What
is Earwax?
Earwax consists
of proteins, skin oils, wax, and outer skin cells. Glands
called apocrine glands reside in the skin of the ear canal
and produce this wax-like substance. The modified apocrine
glands of the ear are similar in structure to the sweat
glands in other parts of the body, but are specialized to
produce earwax, a substance that we are all familiar with.
Why
Do I Get Wax Buildup?
Wax accumulation
in the ear canal is a common problem that affects millions
of people. While earwax is not "dirty", many people
find it revolting and are embarrassed by the problem.
Under
normal conditions, the ear produces a nice, moist, thin,
layer of wax that is cleared from the ear canal by normal
skin growth patterns. As impossible as it may sound, the
skin of the ear canal grows in a directional pattern. In
simple terms, ear skin grows from the inside out, and slowly
carries the wax out with it.
Wax build-up occurs
when there is a breakdown in the ear's natural cleaning
system. The most common reason for this is overproduction.
As far as the ear is concerned, you can have too much of
a good thing, and this is the case for many people with
earwax. The apocrine glands of the ear often produce wax
faster than the skin can clear it, and wax build-up occurs.
This wax build-up interferes with hearing and can trap water
and cause infection, irritation, and pain.
Another common
cause of wax build-up is the production of earwax that is
too dry. When ear canal skin and the associated glands are
too dry, the wax that forms is dry and crusty. This hard
wax does not clear from the ears well and accumulates.
A third common
cause of wax problems is narrow ear canals. In some individuals
the ear opening is simply too narrow, and the wax does not
readily clear itself by the normal pattern.
Why
don't popular store brands work on my Earwax?
Dr. P
Roland and a team of ear specialists at the University of
Texas Southwestern Medical Center recently studied popular
earwax treatment drops. They found that triethanaolamine
10% (Cermunex) and Carabamide Peroxide (Murine)
were no more effective than a placebo in dissolving earwax.
This study was recently published in the
Archives of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery and distributed
to ear specialists worldwide.
How
does AuraClear®
eliminate my Earwax problem?
Proper treatment
of earwax buildup requires a multi-step approach. AuraClear®
gently loosens and softens earwax using two different solutions.
Then, a soothing ear wash removes the wax.
Step
1
Step one is known as the Active Phase. Our patented formula
contains enzymes that gently and naturally break down and
neutralize troublesome earwax. It contains:
|
|
| |
|
Papain,
a natural and gentle proteolytic enzyme extracted
from the papaya plant. "Proteolytic Enzymes"
are substances that digest protein. Earwax contains
significant amounts of protein in the form of
dead skin cells and apocrine gland products.
Other earwax treatments fail because of lack
of proteolytic enzyme activity. Papain is a
natural supplement with power to break down
the protein in earwax.
Hydrogen
Peroxide. We utilize the native properties
of hydrogen peroxide to neutralize the the acidic
pH of earwax and prepare it for the softening
action of enzymes. This natural solvent also
causes wax to absorb moisture and facilitates
the penetration and activation of papain into
hard, difficult pieces of earwax.
Vitamin
E and Antioxidants. Vitamin E protects the
skin and aids in healing. Earwax can traumatize
and irritate the skin of the ear canal. We have
found vitamin E and other antioxidants beneficial
in protection and healing of this delicate skin.
Glycerin
is commonly found in lotion. Pure pharmacy-grade
glycerin is an important component of Earwax
Free. Glycerin acts as an emollient for the
skin and a vehicle to transport the above ingredients
deep into the ear canal to break down wax.
|
|
|
Step
2
This is the Neutralizing Phase
of treatment. It effectively suspends the softened
earwax in solution so it can be easily washed away.
It contains:
|
|
|
| |
|
Mineral
Oil. We use mineral oil, rich in minerals
from the purest sources. Understanding the importance
of mineral oil is as simple as observing the
relationship of oil and water. Wax and oils
repel water. This step is critical because it
breaks down the components of earwax that repel
water, and also repel most other available earwax
treatments.
Orange
Oil. Yes, that's right, orange oil is an
excellent natural solvent to break down earwax.
Orange oil has become popular recently for its
cleaning properties and this natural substance
is wonderful for ears.
Aloe
Vera moistens and softens earwax while it
protects the skin. Earwax build up is sometimes
associated with unhealthy, irritated skin. The
healing properties of aloe vera sooth the skin
and are healthy for the ear.

Directions
Complete Step 1 each morning, and Step 2 each evening for 3 to 5 days
before starting irrigation. Continue use for up to 10 days if needed or
as directed by a doctor. Any wax remaining after treatment will be removed
by gently flushing the ear (Step 3). Store at room temperature. Protect
from heat and direct sunlight. Use before exiration date on bottle and
carton. Retain carton for reference.
Step
1 (Active Phase): Each morning, tilt your
head sideways and place 5 to 10 drops into the ear. Keep the drops in
your ear for several minutes by keeping your head tilted or placing cotton
in the ear.
Step 2 (Neutralizing Phase): Each evening,
tilt your head sideways and place 5-10 drops into the ear. Keep the drops
in your ear for several minutes by keeping your head tilted or placing
cotton in the ear. Do not remove. Allow the drops to soften wax and protect
the surrounding skin.
Step 3 (Irrigation Phase): Bring purified
water to body temperature (do not use hot or cold water). Pour the water
into the irrigation bottle. Place the tip of the irrigation bottle at
the top of the opening to your ear. DO NOT PUT THE IRRIGATION TIP (OR
ANY OTHER OBJECT) INSIDE YOUR EAR CANAL. Irrigate with a generous amount
of purified water at body temperature to remove the excess earwax.
